Every Conversation Matters

Sometimes, child safety starts with a simple question.

“What happened?”

“Are you okay?”

“Do you want to tell me about it?”

For children, having someone who listens can make all the difference. And that’s something we think about every day at Toybox, not just during National Child Protection Week.

This year, National Child Protection Week runs from 6 to 12 September, with the theme Every Conversation Matters, Shifting Conversation to Action. It’s a simple reminder that talking about child safety is only the beginning. What matters is turning those conversations into action.

At our early learning centres in North Sydney and Mascot, child safety is part of everyday life.

It’s an educator taking a child’s worry seriously. Giving children opportunities to speak up and be heard. Helping them understand that they have the right to feel safe and that they can say something when they don’t.

It’s also about the adults around them. Our educators stay alert, follow child safe practices and know when to listen, when to ask questions and when to act.

And none of this happens in isolation. Open communication between families and educators helps everyone stay connected and work together to keep children safe.

Because child protection isn’t a once-a-year conversation. It’s something we choose to prioritise every day.
