A Safe Childcare Centre in North Sydney

Most parents who find us are already doing their research. They’ve read the reviews, checked the ratings, and driven past the building. But the question they’re really trying to answer isn’t on any website.

Is my child actually going to be safe here?

Families come to us from across the lower north shore, from Crows Nest and Cammeray, from Neutral Bay and Cremorne, from Waverton and Wollstonecraft. And whether they’ve been searching for five minutes or five months, they’re all asking the same thing.

At Toybox Early Learning on Miller Street, North Sydney, here is how we answer it.

1. It starts with the people.

The most important safety measure in any early learning centre isn’t a camera or a gate. It’s the people your child spends their day with, every single day.

  • Qualified educators who go beyond the minimum. Government regulations require at least 50% of staff to hold diploma qualifications. We significantly exceed that, because we believe the standard of care your child receives should never be the bare minimum.
  • Low turnover, deep relationships. Many of our educators have been with us for years, some for over a decade. Your child will be known here, by name, by temperament, by the things that make them light up
  • Recognition that means something. We are proud recipients of the Best Team in New South Wales award. And some of our own educators have chosen to enrol their children at Toybox. We think that says everything

2. Physical safety, every hour of the day.

Beyond our people, we have put in place the infrastructure to match.

  • 24/7 CCTV surveillance across our centre, around the clock.
  • Secure gated access with unique entry codes, available only during centre hours.
  • No mobile phones or smartwatches on the floor. In line with recent child safety reforms in New South Wales, personal devices are strictly prohibited in our rooms. Not just as a rule. As a commitment.

These are not just policies. They are the everyday conditions that allow children to simply be children.

3. Transparency Is How We Operate

If we ever suspect a potential safety or compliance issue, we contact families and the Department of Education proactively, before we are required to. We don’t wait to be asked. Complete transparency with our regulatory bodies isn’t something we do when things go wrong. It’s how we operate all the time

4. Rigorous vetting. Ongoing training.

Every team member is thoroughly vetted before they set foot in our rooms, and they keep learning long after they join us.

  • Every educator holds a valid Working With Children Check.
  • We complete a minimum of two reference checks for every new team member.
  • Every prospective staff member completes a Prohibition Notice Declaration, which is checked against the national register and recorded before they begin working with children.
  • Every educator completes Child Protection Training and Foundations of Child Safety Training, with ongoing inductions and peer reviews to support continuous professional growth.

Safety at Toybox isn’t something we added on. It’s what everything else is built around.
